AFL ROUND 14 2011; GEELONG V ADELAIDE; MATCH PREVIEW INCLUDING TEAM LISTS, TV DETAILS
Ben Jensen 25 June 2011

By Ben Jensen twitter.com/thecattery GEELONG CATS V ADELAIDE CROWS JIMMY BARTEL will miss tomorrow's match against Adelaide at Skilled Stadium with concussion. Bartel ran into James Podsiadly's hip last Saturday night at the MCG against the Saints, and although he got up and indicated he was 'right to drive' in time-honoured fashion, he was anything but and was helped from the field and immediately substituted by Mitch Duncan who himself was all-but concussed not long after. MATCH REPORT - CATS MAKE EASY WORK OF CROWS

On Thursday night Geelong named their provisional side with at least four changes, losing Josh Hunt and Matthew Stokes to suspension, Nathan Vardy to general soreness and Darren Milburn with an achilles injury. They joined suspended Joel Selwood on the sidelines. Named as inclusions were Tom Hawkins, Shannon Byrnes, Dawson Simpson, Shannon Motlop, Allen Christensen, Mitch Brown, and Tom Gillies. In the end only two of these (Motlop and Motlop) didn't make it. Notably, ruckman Simpson was the ruckman named, in favour of the well out of favour Mark Blake.

Mitch Brown will now make his long-awaited AFL debut after being named at full forward in place of Vardy. In fact, we thought he made his debut last season, such was the number of times he's been an inclusion only to not make the cut to a final side for a Sunday or Monday game.

Varcoe escaped the selection knife this week after (from a complete outsiders' view) having pretty disappointing performances the last couple games but may yet be spared the axe given the four changes already imposed on the selectors. In the VFL today the 'Bendigo Bank Cats' play Port Melbourne at TEAC Oval on Saturday, live on ABC TV. Watch Cameron Mooney try to win himself some form.

CATS GO DOWN TO CROWS; CLUB DOCTOR GEOFF ALLEN IN FIGHT FOR LIFE
Ben Jensen 17 July 2010

GEELONG were defeated by 11 points at AAMI Stadium last night but it was the off-field dramas during the warmup that took precedence for many back in Geelong. Doctor Geoff Allen suffered a heart attack and after being worked on for a reported fifteen minutes on the ground he was rushed to hospital. The latest word is he should pull through but it was quite a shock for the team, who as you'd expect were quite anxious and upset. The Cats led at the first two changes but trailed by 11 points at three-quarter time, which was the final winning margin for the Crows. Next Saturday afternoon Geelong host Brisbane in a game to be telecast live on Fox Sports.
