AFL 2014 ROUND 3;
COLLINGWOOD V GEELONG; TEAMS AND MATCH PREVIEW By Ben Jensen COLLINGWOOD MAGPIES V GEELONG CATS TWO LATE CHANGES for the Cats' side to play the Magpies at the MCG tonight - Jackson Sheringham and Dawson Simpson replacing Corey Enright and Lincoln McCarthy. Enright has failed to recover from an ankle injury suffered last Sunday at the Gabba while McCarthy's absence is unknown. Mark Blicavs will start as sub for the Cats; Taylor Adams for the Magpies. MATCH REPORT - CATS WIN IN THRILLER AT MCG THE CATS chase their third win of the season against the Magpies tonight. The Cats have lost Taylor Hunt to suspension and chosen to omit Dawson Simpson, recalling Jared Rivers and George Burbury who both return from injury. The Magpies have brought in Alex Fasolo and Lachlan Keeffe in place of injured pair Nathan Brown and Ben Sinclair. Collingwood beat Geelong by six points the last time these two clubs clashed, in round 8 2013, the Cats' first loss of the season. Matches between these two sides have been special for some time now, often bringing out the best in both sides. Fortunately the match that really counted, the 2011 Grand Final, saw the Cats take away the silverware after losing the previous year's Preliminary Final to the Magpies. Having been to both games you can probably guess the one I enjoyed the most! The third of Geelong's premierships in recent years, the 2011 flag was very special for me having been to the first one on my own and being overseas for the second; managed to snag three tickets in the ballot with my father and brother. Didn't know it at the time but my son was beginning his journey through life - hopefully he doesn't have to wait until his 30s or 40s to see the next Geelong flag! Umpiring tonight for their third game together on the trot are Chris Donlon, Sam Hay and Shane McInerney; the AFL is trialling a scheme where they've kept the same trio of field umpires together over the first three rounds. New AFL Umpires boss, former Richmond midfielder Wayne Campbell, spoke on metropolitan radio today explaining the move, which has reportedly worked well. Last night Geelong's VFL side easily accounted for the standalone Bendigo Gold; winning by 47 points at Bendigo's Queen Elizabeth Oval.
