AFL ROUND 18, 2013 GEELONG V ST KILDA SATURDAY 27 JULY 2013 19:40 AEST SIMONDS STADIUM CATS POUND SAINTS
IN HUNDRED POINT WIN GEELONG thrashed St Kilda by a lazy 101 points at Simonds Stadium tonight, after which both teams united on the ground in a tribute to injured former Geelong VFL player Casey Tutungi. The Cats opened the scoring in the match, but soon found themselves down by two goals, the Saints booting the next three. Scores were level at four goals one behind apiece at quarter time, but from then on it was all Geelong. The Cats went on to kick some fifteen unanswered goals after the Saints' only goal of the second quarter, their last of the match. Tom Hawkins overcame a sore back to boot five goals while James Podsiadly kicked two and took two absolute screamers of marks, certain to be mark of the round contenders. Steven Motlop had a top match, bettered only by skipper Joel Selwood. Mitchell Brown had a good match down back, in one of his only games of the season. St Kilda are obviously in a fairly dire place right now, and have gone very much under the radar whereas sides like the Demons and Bulldogs come more under the microscope. The Cats can take a fair bit out of the win but the opposition was very lackluster, so not too much. Dawson Simpson hurt his knee in the first half, appearing to suffer a dislocated knee but hopefully nothing more serious, but it is still likely to keep him out for the rest of the season. Nathan Vardy ably coped with ruck duties after, and should retain his spot next week. Friday night the Cats play North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium, the Kangaroos belting the Demons this afternoon and keen to go one better than round two when they were arguably robbed of a win. Jimmy Bartel is due to return from suspension, with Allen Christensen also due to return from a hamstring injury. 27 JULY 2013 CATS POUND SAINTS IN HUNDRED POINT WIN 26 JULY 2013 AFL 2013 ROUND 18; GEELONG V ST KILDA; MATCH PREVIEW GEELONG: 4.1, 12.5,
