TEAMS AND MATCH PREVIEW By Ben Jensen AFL 2014 ROUND 23 GEELONG CATS V BRISBANE LIONS GEELONG has made FIVE changes to their side to face Brisbane tomorrow night, three of them 'managed' and two declared injured. Out is Shane Kersten who broke down early in last weekend's clash with the Hawks with a hamstring injury; and Brad Hartman with an adductor issue. Hamish McIntosh, Allen Christensen and Steven Motlop are all out 'managed'. Returning are regular senior players George Horlin-Smith, Billie Smedts while getting a chance are Mitch Brown, Josh Walker and Lincoln McCarthy. With no recognised ruckman in the side Mark Blicavs has been named as first ruck; expect Walker to relieve. The Lions have made four changes, with Jordon Bourke to make his AFL debut. Out are Matt Maguire (ankle), Ryan Harwood (foot) and the omitted Michael Closer; while the man who pretty much single-handedly beat the Cats last season off his own boot, Ashley McGrath has retired, playing his last game at the Gabba. NO VFL action for the Cats this weekend, the season ending last week with the Cats finishing ninth, two points behind eighth placed Sandringham.

CATS AFL 2014 ROUND 2 BRISBANE LIONS V GEELONG CATS GEELONG defeated the Brisbane Lions by 25 points at the Gabba this afternoon in Andrew Mackie's 200th match. Steve Johnson, himself in his 13th season was clearly best on ground while last week's milestone man Jimmy Bartel wasn't too far behind in game number 251. GEELONG led Brisbane at half time despite being outplayed for much of the half, three goals in barely sixty seconds by Hawkins, Hunt and Varcoe towards half time giving the Cats the lead. There was plenty of rain at the Gabba leading up to the game, the conditions quite slippery and tough for player and fan alike in the first half but drying out thereafter. It was an equal spread of goal kickers for the Cats with five players booting two apiece; Tom Hawkins, Travis Varcoe, Bartel, George Horlin-Smith and Jordan Murdoch. The leading goal kicker for the day was Lion Daniel Mayes with four, next best for the Lions veteran Jonathan Brown with two. Horlin-Smith came in as a late change for Jared Rivers, and started as sub. He came on in the second half for Corey Enright who suffered what may prove to be a nasty leg injury, having his legs taken out from under him. Fortunately there was no come-back from the Lions like we saw in the corresponding fixture last season, the Lions then booting ten of the final eleven goals of the match to steal it at the death thanks to heroics from Ashley McGrath. GEELONG:
