AFL 2016 ROUND 10: CARLTON BLUES V
GEELONG CATS; MATCH PREVIEW & FINAL TEAMS AFL ROUND 10 2016: CARLTON BLUES V GEELONG CATS TALLS TOM LONERGAN AND JAKE KOLODJASHNIJ have been rushed back into the Geelong side to face Carlton on Sunday at Etihad Stadium after the loss to another old club of Mick Malthouse, Collingwood, last round. Lonergan as expected was a late withdrawal from the loss to the Magpies due to the after effects of concussion. He and Kolodjashnij were missed, the latter missing the last two weeks with a broken hand. Dan Menzel has been given a week off due to soreness. Billie Smedts has been rewarded with his form in the VFL after an early season shoulder injury. Getting the axe are Jed Bews and George Horlin-Smith in a week when there's no VFL match for the Cats. The Blues have brought back two big blokes Matthew Kreuzer and Levi Casboultin a move that surprised many after expectations were they would miss much longer through injury. Dropped to make way for the pair are Daniel Gorringe and Liam Jones. The Cats beat the Blues by 77 points last time around. Under Brendan Bolton though the Blues have been a far more competitive outfit, although losing their first four matches winning the next four. Last weekend they were outclassed by ladder leader North Melbourne, a result the Cats would be keen to repeat this weekend.

BEFORE GAME STARTS, IN REAL TROUBLE AFTER AFL ROUND 8 2015: GEELONG CATS V CARLTON BLUES GEELONG were not really challenged by Carlton tonight, winning by seventy-seven points and keeping their perfect record against the Blues at Etihad Stadium intact. A six goal to two opening term followed by five goal to three second had the match pretty much over by half time, the struggling Blues not able to pull off an upset as coach Michael Malthouse found himself yet again under siege though it's hard to see how his side would ever be able to challenge the Cats let alone their opponents Sydney next Friday night. The Cats had twelve separate goal kickers, Jordan Murdoch leading with four while Mitch Clark and Josh Caddy had three apiece. Shane Kersten booted two and played a great all round game, while Tom Hawkins managed just the one. The Cats play West Coast at Subiaco next Sunday afternoon, a tough away game with the Eagles second on the ladder having lost just two matches to date, the Cats well down the ladder in tenth position with a 50/50 win/loss record.
