2016 ROUND 20: GEELONG CATS V ESSENDON BOMBERS
GEELONG plays Essendon in what may well be a dour contest this Sunday
afternoon, 3pm, at Etihad Stadium.
Geelong struggled to shake off Essendon at their clash earlier this
season but with the Bombers only having the one win all season if the
Cats don't dish out an 80-90 point win over the Bombers questions will
be asked. No word yet from either club as to whether there'll be some
form of a cup for this clash, ala the Thompson Cup or even the Thompson-Knights-Robinson
Cup.
Scott Selwood will make his long-awaited debut for the
Cats after crossing from West Coast in the off-season; the Cats knew
he would miss much of the start of the season with an ankle injury that
required surgery last October. He is joined on the inclusion list by
fellow recruit Lachie Henderson who missed two weeks with concussion
and Josh Caddy- Caddy has been out with a knee injury since mid June
and is a great in for the Cats. Left out of the side are injured Lincoln
McCarthy with an adductor strain, the rested/managed Jake Kolodjashnij
and the omitted Tom Ruggles.
The Cats' injury list is as short as it's been all season,
with just two regular senior players on it now, McCarthy and Billie
Smedts. Nathan Vardy who would like to be a regular AFL player has unfortunately
made his way onto the list again with an ankle injury as reported last
week with his playing future at the club under a cloud.

ROUND 4 2016: ESSENDON BOMBERS V GEELONG CATS
GEELONG struggled to overcome a feisty Essendon side at the MCG today,
finally shaking them off in the second half to win by thirty points.
Leading by just two points at half-time the Cats managed to kick only
a single goal in the third quarter but seven behinds, to the Bombers'
one goal and one behind. They built on this slender eight point lead
in the final term with three goals five behinds to blow the winning
margin out to thirty points which many would say flattered the Cats.
Next Saturday evening Geelong takes on a struggling Port Adelaide outfit
at the Adelaide Oval while Essendon have the 'blockbuster' ANZAC Day
clash at the MCG- we'd back in the Bombers but the Magpies, under fire
after their start may just bounce back.
