AFL 2017 ROUND 4:
HAWTHORN HAWKS V GEELONG CATS; MATCH PREVIEW & FINAL TEAMS AFL 2017 ROUND 4: HAWTHORN HAWKS V GEELONG CATS GEELONG plays Hawthorn at the MCG this Easter Monday, with the Hawks on the back foot having lost their opening three games in contrast to the Cats who are undefeated. The Cats have made just the one change, omitting Lincoln McCarthy at the expense of Nakia Cockatoo. The Hawks have made three changes from their side who were belted by Gold Coast last Sunday, dropping son of former Cat Geoff Miles, Teia, Brendan Whitecross, and lost Jaeger O'Meara to injury. In the initial squad of 25 the Cats omitted Lincoln McCarthy and recalled Rhys Stanley, Nakia Cockatoo, George Horlin-Smith and Josh Cowan. Stanley, Cowan and Horlin-Smith have been named on the field with Cockatoo on the bench. The decision to leave Stanley out appears to have answered the question as to who is the number one ruckman for the time being. Stanley was initially named at centre half forward with Harry Taylor at half back among some other interesting positions such as Josh Cowan and George Horlin-Smith named in the starting 18 but not making the final cut. In other news on the back of his first three games Geelong's Brandan Parfitt was named the AFL's Rising Star nominee for the round on Monday. AFL 2016 - SECOND QUALIFYING FINAL GEELONG CATS V HAWTHORN HAWKS FRIDAY 9 SEPTEMBER 2016 19:50 AEST MCG 10 SEPTEMBER 2016 CATS HOLD OFF HAWKS, THROUGH TO PRELIMINARY FINAL 5 SEPTEMBER 2016 AFL 2016 SECOND QUALIFYING FINAL: GEELONG CATS V HAWTHORN HAWKS; MATCH PREVIEW & TEAMS CATS HOLD OFF HAWKS, THROUGH TO PRELIMINARY FINAL AFL 2016 SECOND QUALIFYING FINAL: GEELONG CATS V HAWTHORN HAWKS GEELONG were in front by three points when the final siren rang last night but had to wait and see whether Isaac Smith could put the Hawks over the line- fortunately for the Cats he missed, with Geelong through to a 'home' Preliminary Final and the Hawks to play the Western Bulldogs in a semi final next weekend instead and facing a Sydney Preliminary Final should they make it that far. The match was a classic, and five years since the same match (a qualifying final against Hawthorn) when Daniel Menzel first did his knee- the Cats won that match on their way to the 2011 Premiership and were determined to do the same today. Geelong had the upper hand in the first quarter but couldn't quite make it show on the scoreboard, taking a 7 point lead into quarter time. Steve Motlop opened the scoring for the Cats with a goal in general play in the goal square, the first of two for him on the night. FULL MATCH REVIEW GEELONG:2.3,
