AFL 2017 ROUND 22
COLLINGWOOD MAGPIES V GEELONG CATS; MATCH PREVIEW & TEAMS
Ben Jensen 17 August 2017
AFL
2017 ROUND 22:
COLLINGWOOD MAGPIES V GEELONG CATS
MITCH DUNCAN and Wylie Buzza return to the Geelong line-up from suspension
and a spell in the VFL respectively. They replace Rhys Stanley who is
out with a calf injury after playing a pretty good game in the win over
Richmond last weekend, and Brandan Parfitt who has somewhat surprisingly
been omitted. Collingwood has made three changes including son of a
gun Josh Daicos being named for his AFL debut. Also in are Tim Broomhead
and Josh Smith while decent players Tyson Goldsack, Alex Fasolo have
been left out through injury along with Jordan De Goey.
It
will be five years, eleven and a bit months since Geelong's crushing
2011 Grand Final win over Collingwood this Saturday. In more recent
times the Cats have really struggled including earlier this season when
the Magpies easily beat the Cats, by 29 points. The two sides also meet
in the VFL, at Victoria Park on Saturday morning while the AFL match
is on at the MCG at 2:10PM. The VFL Women play at home (Deakin Uni)
against the Wheelers Hill based Eastern Devils- interestingly the Devils
began life attached to Deakin's Burwood campus back in 1999, going their
own way in 2008.

Ben Jensen 30 April 2017
AFL
2017 ROUND 6 GEELONG CATS V COLLINGWOOD MAGPIES
GEELONG lost
their first game of the season today against Collingwood, who have beaten
the Cats the last few years and now won something like six of the past
eight clashes. The Cats started well enough with a goal in the first
minute to Nakia Cockatoo but the Magpies soon struck back, equaling
the Cats' three goals for the term and took a four point lead into quarter
time. The second quarter saw the Magpies step up a couple gears with
the Cats stuck in neutral falling seventeen points behind at the main
break. Collingwood's six goals to three the third quarter quarter all
but ended it, the Cats facing a 35 point deficit just to level the scores,
which was never on the cards. The winning margin was 29 points which
just about flattered Geelong who were expected to deal with Collingwood
if only due to the fact the Magpies played on ANZAC Day - just five
days ago. FULL
