CATS STUNNED BY LIONS COMEBACK
Ben Jensen 24 June 2013

CHRIS SCOTT has been on about it for weeks but his side escaped without dropping a match, but yesterday evening at the Gabba the Brisbane Lions, who trailed by some 52 points at one stage, outscored the Cats by eight goals to one in the final term to win by five points with Ashley McGrath kicking the winning goal after the siren in his 200th match. Veteran McGrath had a great all round game, booting two goals early in the match before taking the mark just inside fifty right as the siren sounded. Geelong had led the match at every change, though the Lions did get the early advanced before the Cats booted the final three of the term to lead by thirteen points at the first break.

Like many Geelong fans, coach Chris Scott was not impressed, describing his feeling as "restrained fury" at the mandatory post match presser. "I was extremely disappointed," he said. "I would describe the mood at the moment as restrained fury"; me too Scotty. At least he's starting to know what brother Brad feels like. "Clearly I'm emotional, we're emotional, we're disappointed, but we're 10 (wins) and two (losses), and we'll move on after we've reviewed it thoroughly, because we're certainly not going to sweep this one under the carpet" summed it up.

Scott of course played some 215 games for the Bears/Lions, including the memorable comeback game in round 16 1995 when the Bears trailed the Hawks by 51 points at three quarter time having kicked just five goals for the match, and ended up winning by seven points kicking nine goals in the final quarter. To cap off the misery, Steve Johnson is almost certain to miss two weeks, cited by the AFL Match Review Panel for rough conduct following a bump on Lion Pearce Hanley.
