AFL 2013 1ST SEMI FINAL;
GEELONG V PORT ADELAIDE;
MATCH PREVIEW By Ben Jensen twitter.com/thecattery GEELONG CATS V PORT ADELAIDE POWER GEELONG has made three changes for their semi final against Port Adelaide at the MCG on Friday night. Kenny Hinkley's boys on the other hand take a lineup unchanged following their win over Collingwood at the same venue last week. Corey Enright (injured and suspended), Josh Caddy (ankle) and Josh Walker make way for two Hunts - Taylor and Josh and Tom Hawkins who was a late withdrawal from last week's loss to the Dockers. Enright, who hobbled off on Saturday with a nasty medial ligament tear in his knee is unlikely to play again this season. Enright was cited for striking Fremantle's Chris Mayne, and could have accepted 93.75 activation points and no suspension. But due to the season-ending injury the Cats decided to roll the dice and appeal; which was thrown out, Enright finishing with a week's suspension and 25 activation points carrying over into next season. A win of sorts. Caddy along with Andrew Mackie picked up an ankle knock and will miss, with Mackie set to undergo a final check on his fitness tomorrow. Hawkins who has struggled with a back injury for months was pulled out of Saturday's side and replaced by Josh Walker. The Cats struggled up forward with James Podsiadly the only effective tall target, the return of Hawkins at the vast MCG should improve things this weekend and the rest of the finals series should the Cats make it. Taylor Hunt was the other one to pull out of last weekend's side, replaced on the day by Cameron Guthrie. Josh Hunt has done what has been asked of him since being sent back to the VFL and adds some much needed experience to the backline with Enright out. Still no room in the side for Trent West, Chris Scott sticking with Mark Blicavs and Nathan Vardy. Look for Steven Motlop to step up this week after struggling against the Dockers, the speedster plays his 50th game. Jimmy Bartel plays his 23rd final, a club record bettering the 22 by Matthew Scarlett.

LAST QUARTER FADE OUT GEELONG accounted for Port Adelaide by twenty-five points this afternoon at Simonds Stadium, though they led by 63 points early in the final term. Angus Monfries finished with seven goals, three of them in a sequence of six unanswered Power goals as they pegged the Cats' lead back in the final quarter. The Cats were without Mitch Duncan for most of the match, Duncan leaving the field concussed in the opening minutes. Skipper Joel Selwood finished with four goals, an equal career high. With Sydney losing to Collingwood this evening Geelong held second spot on the ladder, needing to win the last three games including one against the Swans to be certain of a Victorian final first up.
