AFL 2013 ROUND 23;
GEELONG V BRISBANE;
MATCH PREVIEW By Ben Jensen twitter.com/thecattery GEELONG CATS V BRISBANE LIONS TRENT WEST returns to the ruck for the final match of the home and away season against the Brisbane Lions at Simonds Stadium this Saturday afternoon in place of Nathan Vardy who has been rested or 'managed'. Brisbane memorably defeated Geelong back in June at the Gabba in a fantastic comeback. In the VFL the Bendigo Bank Cats plays Casey Scorpions in the first qualifying final at Simonds Stadium tomorrow night. Cats CEO Brian Cook is pushing the AFL for a genuine home final, eg at Geelong, should the first opponent be Fremantle. The Dockers are kicking up a fair old stink about this, so it isn't a certainty by any means.

AFL 2013 ROUND 13 SUNDAY 23 JUNE 2013 14:40 AEST; GABBA CATS STUNNED BY
LIONS COMEBACK CHRIS SCOTT has been on about it for weeks but his side escaped without dropping a match, but yesterday evening at the Gabba the Brisbane Lions, who trailed by some 52 points at one stage, outscored the Cats by eight goals to one in the final term to win by five points with Ashley McGrath kicking the winning goal after the siren in his 200th match. Veteran McGrath had a great all round game, booting two goals early in the match before taking the mark just inside fifty right as the siren sounded. Geelong had led the match at every change, though the Lions did get the early advanced before the Cats booted the final three of the term to lead by thirteen points at the first break.
